Beginning Conversational Spanish

SPANISH I

Description: Through live conversations with the teacher, students will acquire/learn Spanish vocabulary including the alphabet, greetings & farewells, numbers, colors, days of the week, month of the year, seasons, countries, telling the time, weather, parts of the body, family members, clothing, directions, food, etc.

Students will master the uses of the verb SER,IR, PODER, HABER impersonal(HAY), NECESITAR, QUERER, PREFERIR, conjugations regular and irregular verbs in context, write proper Spanish phrases and short sentences, use definite and indefinite articles with nouns, noun-adjectives agreement, subject-verb agreement.

Grammar: the present and past tenses, verb GUSTAR, reflexive verbs, regular and irregular verbs, comparatives, posseive pronouns,possesive adjetives,etc.

From day one, students will speak bilingually English and Spanish with the teacher to practice the speaking skill. Opportunities to listen, read,and write in Spanish will be provided through audiovisuals, audio clips, podcasts, and a variety of written texts from expository and descriptive to publicity. A permanent exposure to the Latino-Hispano heritage, traditions, and customs in Latin America and Spain will integrate language and culture through communication and connections.

Evaluation: 70 % oral and 30 % written assignments. Formative assesments in class with instant feedback from the instructor. Summative assesments outside the class: quizzes and tests.

Low Intermediate Conversational Spanish

SPANISH II

Description: Through live conversations with the teacher, students will acquire/learn more Spanish vocabulary including free time,hobbies,night life, family-friends relationships, travel, restaurants,food,vacation,social events: weddings & quinceañeras, school, entertainment: movies, radio and TV shows, etc.

Students will contrast the verb SER/ESTAR,IR/VENIR, TRAER/LLEVAR, more conjugations other regular and irregular verbs, write proper Spanish sentences, use articles with nouns, noun-adjectives agreement, subject-verb agreement.

Grammar: the present, preterit, imperfect, and present perfect tenses, more reflexive verbs, comparatives and superlatives, direct object pronouns, indirect object pronouns etc.

From day one, students will speak bilingually English and Spanish with the teacher to practice the speaking skill. Opportunities to listen, read,and write in Spanish will be provided through audiovisuals, audio clips, podcasts, and a variety of written texts from expository and descriptive to publicity. High Intermediate Conversational Spanish

SPANISH III:

Description: Through live conversations with the teacher, students will acquire/learn Spanish vocabulary including the social relations, personal experiences: biography, anecdotes, dreams and nightmares, parts of the body, education and careers, fitness, literature and cinema, ecology and nature, radio, TV and adverstising, costums and habits, SMS, emails, informal notes and letters, etc.

Students will master the uses of the verbs ME PARECE/ES + adjective + que + subjuntive; ME PARECE/ESTÁ + adverb + que + subjuctive; ES UN/UNA + noun + que + subjuctive; ES CIERTO/EVIDENTE + que + indicativo; ESTÁ CLARO + que + indicative; SER and ESTAR (review and expansion; DEBER + infinitive; TENER QUE + infinitive; conjugations regular and irregular verbs in context, write proper Spanish phrases and short sentences, use definite and indefinite articles with nouns, noun-adjectives agreement, subject-verb agreement.

Grammar: the subjuntive mood, indicative tenses (review), contast indicative/subjuntive, time expressions, regular and irregular imperative, discourse connectors, compound subjtive tenses, simple and compound infinitve, imperative mood, diferent kind of sentences: time, relative, conditional, etc.

Students will speak Spanish only with the teacher to practice this oral skill. More opportunities to listen, read, and write in Spanish will be provided through audiovisuals, audio clips, podcasts, and a variety of written texts from expository and descriptive to publicity. A permanent exposure to the Latino-Hispano heritage, traditions, and customs in Latin America and Spain will integrate language and culture through communication and connections.

Advanced Conversational Spanish

SPANISH IV:

Description: Through live conversations with the teacher, students will acquire/learn Spanish vocabulary including the healthcare system, mass media, social media, business, professional carrers, free time, autions, cinema, music, coloquial expressions,arts and culture, gastronomy, sports, etc.

Students will master the uses of the verbs PONERSE + adjetivos; VOLVERSE + adjetive/un, una + noun + adjective; CONVERTIRSE en + noun; HACERSE + noun; LLEGAR A SER + noun/adjective; QUEDARSE/ACABAR + adjective; TERMINAR/ACABAR + gerund; DEJAR; PARECER(SE; SER and ESTAR (Review and expantion)

Grammar: the subjuntive preterite, contraste between subjunctive present and preterite, indirect style,subordinate sentences, contrast indicative/subjunctive, relative pronouns and adverbs,conditionals, comparison and comparative expressions (Review and expantion) etc.

All interaction student-teacher will be in Spanish only. More opportunities to listen, read, and write in Spanish will be provided through audiovisuals, audio clips, podcasts, and a variety of written texts from expository and descriptive to publicity.
